The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation held its annual GLAAD Media Awards in New York City Saturday. Broadway and film star Alan Cumming hosted the event where Cynthia Nixon, Joy Behar and Sigourney Weaver were on hand to accept honors. Also on tap at the awards were Sarah Paulson, Sandra Bernhard and the Broadway cast of Hair.

Among the television shows bestowed with honors for positive representation of LGBT people in the media, were Brothers & Sisters, which was named Best Drama and the Amy Poehler vehicle Parks and Recreation, which picked up an honor for best individual episode, according to EOnline.

Additional shows that picked up nods at the 21st Annual GLAAD Awards were The Oprah Winfrey Show, ABC's One Life to Live and the show with the hottest lesbian anchor, The Rachel Maddow Show.

The View co-host and host of her own show, Joy Behar earned the Excellence in Media Award.
Sex and the City star and vocal proponent for marriage rights, Cynthia Nixon, took home the Vito Russo Award, which is awarded to an openly gay media professional who has made inroads in promoting equal rights.
Prayers for Bobby's Sigourney Weaver was on hand to pick up the award the film won for Outstanding Made for TV Movie.

GLAAD will also hold awards' shows in Los Angeles on April 17, and in San Francisco on June 5.
