Hayley Kiyoko to Receive LGBTQ Youth Honor From the Trevor Project
Lesbian Jesus is getting recognized!
Hayley Kiyoko is set to receive the Youth Innovator Award from the Trevor Project later this year. The title is given to one person each year who has gone out of their way to support and empower LGBTQ youth, and past recipients have included Amandla Stenberg, Tyler Oakley, and Jazz Jennings.
In addition to being a prominent LGBTQ voice in music, Kiyoko has used her music videos to draw attention to violence against queer and trans women, and famously donated all those bras fans kept throwing at her during concerts to homeless LGBTQ youth.
“The Trevor Project knows how important it is for LGBTQ young people to see themselves and their identities represented by inspiring young artists like Hayley Kiyoko,” said Amit Paley, the CEO of the Trevor Project.
“Hayley embraces her identity as a strength, serving as a role model for LGBTQ youth around the world — we’re so excited to honor her at TrevorLIVELA and celebrate 21 years of saving young LGBTQ lives.”
News of the award comes on the heels of Kiyoko announcing a new music project. She stated on Twitter yesterday that she plans to “release a collection of songs from now through January…dedicated to all of these feelings I’ve been learning to embrace.” The first song, “Demons,” is set to be released this Friday.

Kiyoko also commented on the Trevor Project honor via Twitter, saying that she is “so lucky to be included in this important night.”
Additional information about TrevorLIVE LA is expected to be released soon, and if you can’t afford the hefty ticket price to attend in person, the event will be livestreamed on November 17.
