Watch: Ellen DeGeneres on The Boy Scouts' Gay Ban, Neckerchiefs and Green Short Shorts

No one can mix politics with humor quite like Ellen DeGeneres can. In the opening monologue for her show Ellen addresses The Boys Scouts’ ban on gay members pointing out that she realizes how difficult it would be for the organization. “I realize this is a big decision for the Boy Scouts because, if the Boy Scouts start treating gays equally they’re going to become the first group to do it – after the Army, the Navy, the Air Force, the Marines, the Coast Guard, all of the United Kingdom and Cher,” Ellen quips

Of course Boy Scouts’ fashion does not go unnoticed in Ellen’s monologue.

“They won’t let their members be gay, well, openly gay anyway, but they’re letting them wear neckerchiefs and green short shorts.”

Ellen, who admits she was a Girl Scout for about a day, goes on to say that her brother was a Boy Scout who learned invaluable lessons like how to tie knots, adding that she was once tied to a water heater for three weeks. “It was a good knot,” she adds.
