Critically acclaimed actress Maria Bello, who came out about her 'modern family' in an op-ed in the New York Times in Dec. of 2013, received the HRC Equality Award earlier this year, and now her full speech is available online. The event occurred on Feb. 22, in Austin, Texas, and Bello could not say enough about the great city of Austin, or the amazing steak that they served at the event, which she said she could never get in Hollywood.
Regarding equality Bello said, "In some ways I wish I wasn’t standing up here. I wish that one day the labels that discriminate against people would be a thing of the past, and we will not have to fight for the permission to love who we love. I wish to be celebraiting with all of you that equality under the law should be the oxygen that we breathe."
Bello has a LOT to say about labels throughout the speech.
