Constance McMillen to Attend Private Prom with her Girlfriend

An attorney says that Constance McMillen can bring her girlfriend to a privately sponsored dance.

The lesbian student who infamously sued a Mississippi school over its policy banning same-sex prom dates is now going to get to dance with her girlfriend.

According to the AP, Itawamba County school board attorney Michele Floyd said Tuesday that the 18-year-old senior could escort her girlfriend to the dance Friday at the Fulton Country Club.

The private prom replaces the one in which the school district canceled over McMillen's request to wear a tuxedo and bring her girlfriend, who is also a student at Itawamba Agricultural High School.

A federal judge ruled last week that the district's actions violated McMillen's constitutional rights, but he didn't reinstate the school prom.

A trial will be held on the matter later.
