Jill Bennett's Call to Action: Get Into the Streets and Protest

Jill Bennett makes a call to action. 'This week has been life changing in so many ways. I’m asking all of you to join the fight.'

Dear Friends,

This week has been life changing in so many ways. We had an amazing victory on Tuesday when Obama was elected, and a stunning blow when Prop. 8 passed on Wednesday. As you know, we have been protesting this unconstitutional amendment. I’m asking all of you to join the fight.

I know all you gays are probably sick of getting these notices, and hopefully you're already planning to attend. I know I’m preaching to the choir, but it's important that we all know what is going on and how UTTERLY IMPORTANT it is that we show up for these protests. We are at a crossroads in our movement and we can't let up now. This is our second Stonewall and we cannot afford to let this stand without a fierce fight.

This is the first time in U.S. history that the civil rights of a minority group have been stripped by a vote of the majority.

I attended both major protests -- the one Wednesday in West Hollywood and yesterday at the Mormon Temple in West L.A. and I’m going to this one on Saturday in Silver Lake. I’m tired, behind in all my work and in need of a day off, but there is absolutely nothing more important than our civil rights.

If you haven't made it to a protest yet, make tomorrow the first. If you've already protested, come again tomorrow. There are no excuses for not showing up... none. If you have plans, cancel them. If you have friends or family in, bring them. If you have to work, get off early or tell your boss you have to be there. Anyone who loves you will understand why you have to reschedule.

I saw a man on crutches march five miles with a broken leg yesterday because he knew how important this moment was.

You will be inspired. You will want to continue the fight. You will understand why we can't give up now. And this isn't just about marriage. This is about dignity and equality.

Wear comfortable shoes, dress warmly and bring water and snacks. This could be a long one...

On Thursday we began at the Mormon Temple. We shut down the Wilshire corridor, the 405 and Santa Monica Blvd during rush hour. Most of the onlookers were supportive, others shocked. Either way, we're letting them know we're pissed and we're not going away.

Don’t let me down, don't let our community down. Be there tomorrow.
