Forget Coachella. The latest large gathering to fall victim to cancelation over coronavirus concerns hits so much closer to home. RuPaul’s DragCon LA is packing it up and telling fans to stay home.

The decision was announced on Tuesday, as the number of reported number of people with COVID-19 in the United States surpassed 1000.

“DragCon’s first priority is always the health and safety of everyone involved and we’ve been actively tracking the situation around the coronavirus,” read a statement put out by the organizers of DragCon. “The situation in California (and the world) is rapidly changing, with new information coming out everyday.

“Unfortunately, there’s no way for anyone to know what the situation will be like in May. Due to that uncertainty, and out of an abundance of caution, we’ve decided that it’s in the best interest of the talent, staff, and attendees to cancel RuPaul’s DragCon LA 2020.”

While some large events are just postponing with the hopes that the coronavirus is under control in the next few months, DragCon LA is opting instead to just flat out cancel the event. They noted that attendees will receive refunds through Eventbrite, and that plans for DragCon in 2021 are still on.

It’s only one of many large gatherings in the U.S. and abroad to be canceled amid concerns of the coronavirus spreading, with more cancelations undoubtedly to come.

But if we’re stuck at home, at least we’ve got All Stars 5 to look forward to. Time to shell out for that Showtime subscription after all.
