Lin-Manuel Miranda's Tony Awards Speech Will Have You Chanting 'Love Is Love Is Love is Love'

Lin-Manuel Miranda's Tony Awards Speech Will Have You Chanting 'Love Is Love Is Love is Love'

It was Miranda's night to shine, but he dedicated his speech to those who lost their lives in the horrific shooting at a gay club in Orlando.

At any other Tony Awards ceremony in any other year, the night would have belonged to Lin-Manuel Miranda, the composer, lyricist, actor, and genius who created the smash musical Hamilton. While Hamilton took home a staggering 11 Tony Awards, Miranda used his speech for winning best score to deliver a tear-jerking sonnet about the horrific shooting at the gay club Pulse in Orlando, Fl. that occurred early Sunday morning.

Here’s Miranda's sonnet in full:

My wife’s the reason anything gets done
She nudges me towards promise by degrees
She is a perfect symphony of one,
Our son is her most beautiful reprise
We chase the melodies that seem to find us
Until they’re finished songs and start to play
When senseless acts of tragedy remind us
That nothing here is promised, not one day
This show is proof that history remembers
We live through times when hate and fear seem stronger
We rise and fall and light from dying embers
Remembrances that hope and love lasts long
And love is love is love is love is love is love is love is love is love
Cannot be killed or swept aside,
I sing Vanessa’s symphony, Eliza tells her story
Now fill the world with music love and pride

While the words are beyond moving on their own, Miranda’s emotional delivery may bring you to your knees and have you chanting the refrain, “Love is love is love is love is love…” through your tears.
