Dinkley is officially fam, get over it.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that the iconic Scooby-Doo character Velma Dinkley is officially queer in the latest franchise movie, Trick or Treat, Scooby-Doo!

In the film, Velma has a flirtation with a criminal mastermind named Coco and confesses her crush to Daphne very explicitly.

LGBTQ+ fans are celebrating the moment as a win, especially as viewers have been speculating about Velma’s sexuality for years. “The way I could actually cry about this like her finally being canon in the movies not just in mystery incorporated show makes me so unbelievably happy,” one commenter wrote.

The news has gone viral across social media, memes are flowing like an avalanche, and the love is coming from surprising places. Search engine Google even gave searchers a special surprise. When you Google “Velma”, a flurry of rainbows, lesbian, and progress flags confetti down the screen. Run, don’t walk, to check that out for yourself!

But not everyone’s happy Velma is a lesbian. Many conservatives are losing their minds over this animated character’s sexuality. Earlier this week Fox News reported that “Scooby-Doo Goes Woke”, whatever that means, while right-wing talking head Steven Crowder says he simply doesn’t want originally straight characters to turn gay. “Just go make your own,” he said on his podcast. “We don’t want to watch a bunch of cartoon women shop at Bass Pro.”

Just wait to til they hear about HBO Max’s upcoming Scooby-Doo adaption, Velma, where Mindy Kaling will play the titular character.

Trick or Treat, Scooby-Doo is now available on VOD. You’ll be able to stream it on HBO Max on October 16.
